A lot of people think twice before filling the tank of their car completely, but it was busier than ever in Kampenhout in Belgium. Passers-by were surprised when they saw the posted prices: 1.077 euros for a liter of diesel and 1.2 to 1.3 euros per liter of petrol.
Many will undoubtedly have thought that there was just an error on the electronic signs, but who actually went to refuel, discovered that these rates were actually calculated. The news spread like wildfire on social media and it didn’t take long before a large traffic jam arose. It seemed as if all of Kampenhout came to fill the car’s tank — and in many cases also a few jerry cans.
In the meantime, it turned out that the Colruyt group, which DATS24 falls under, was not aware of anything. “These were customers who called us themselves to ask whether those prices were correct,” it sounds. “We have rectified this error as soon as possible and in the meantime you can only refuel at the correct, market-based price.” It was not disclosed how long this ‘unforeseen stunt’ lasted and how many customers were able to use it.
