A perilous adventure with a happy ending for the budgerigar Joepie. He decided to go out into the wide world, but that didn’t go quite as it should. He has now found a warm nest.
On Saturday evening, the blue and white man lands on a girl’s shoe of a visitor to the shopping center in the Emmer district of Angelslo. Exhausted, battered and starving. The carrier does not know what to do with the visit from above, but Wiena Polée’s son does. He takes the bird in his backpack, buys some food and takes him home.
“Mom, I have a parakeet, but I can’t keep it,” Polée is told on the phone. “My son has three cats, so we didn’t think that was such a good idea,” she explains.
And so the animal lover from Veenoord takes over the animal from his son. From that moment on, Joepie is called the ‘winged guest’.
From an emergency cage, Joepie has to wait for the fate that awaits him. Because Polée wants to know where her new roommate comes from. “It may be that it belongs to a young child, I think that’s completely sad.”
Honest as Wiena Polée is, she makes a call on Radio Drenthe on Monday afternoon to find out the owner. She secretly hopes that it remains unknown. “If Joepie is not picked up, he can stay with us.”
Bad luck for Polee. Listener Willem reports with photos and all. Joepie appears to have escaped from the aviary with him. He contacts Polée, but has a nice message for her. “Joepie stays with us. I can keep Joepie. He doesn’t have to go back”, Polée exults after the conversation with Willem. “He heard I gave him a name and was a little sad when he left. He said: if you want to keep him, you can keep him from me.”
And as said, that is exactly what Polée was hoping for. “We have an extended family. Now we have to tame him, we thought he was tame but he was probably just tired. Now we have a goal.”
Meanwhile, Joepie seems to be enjoying himself in his new home, where he is allowed to fly freely. “He eats well, he drinks well and poops very well. But it doesn’t matter, we have flagstones and you can clean that in no time.”
