The Miss Universe pageant once again gathered beauties from all over the world in New Orleans, USA in January.

Miss candidates chosen by Ukraine and Russia also took part in the competition. The right of the Russian representative to participate in the competition was criticized even before the start of the competition, as Russia has been excluded from participating countries in many other competitions.

Missi was even supported by the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin on behalf of the state. However, the audience literally voted with their voice, because the one who represented Russia Anna Linnikova got big boos when he was on stage.

Now both Linnikova and the one who represented Ukraine Victoria Apanasenko opened up in the media about friction behind the scenes of the competition.

Miss Russia accuses of discrimination

Linnikova is billed by the Russian media Evening Moscow’n interview that he experienced the atmosphere of competition as discriminatory towards himself. Linnikova did not reach the top 16 contestants in the competition, which she believes was due to the prevailing political situation in the world.

Linnikova accuses other competitors of discrimination. He says in the interview that he received unpleasant comments, especially from representatives of Ukraine.

– A lot of people avoided and discriminated against me when they found out where I’m from.

– Girls from Ukraine and Switzerland ran away from me like fire, Linnikova says in an interview.

According to Linnikova, Apanasenko did not even agree to speak to her, nor to stand next to her in line.

– I tried to make eye contact with him, but my attempts were in vain. Everyone saw Viktoria’s behavior. It was his choice. I didn’t want to hold a grudge, says Linnikova.

Another view of Miss Ukraine

Apanasenko also commented on the inflamed rift between the two to the Daily Beast media. His view of the situation is different.

Apanasenko says that she wished that Miss Russia would have approached her and apologized for the situation personally.

– He just came to me to take a selfie. I think the picture ended up as propaganda material, Apanasenko commented.

– During the entire competition, Miss Russia did not say a word about the war. I was told that it could be a danger to him, he adds.

Apanasenko says in the interview that he is grateful for the support he received from the competition. It was uncomfortable for him to stand on the same stage with the representative of Russia. Apanasenko found Linnikova’s red evening dress particularly unnerving, which reminded him of the color of blood.

The Miss Universe competition was won this year by the representative of the United States R’Bonney Gabriel.

Finland was represented in the competition by Petra Hämäläinen.
