Mislintat confirms: stay with VfB even in case of relegation

Stuttgart (AP) – Sports director Sven Mislintat has confirmed that he will remain with VfB Stuttgart even in the event of relegation from the Bundesliga.

“I always stand by my word and identify 100 percent with VfB and my tasks. My contract runs until June 30, 2023, and I respect that,” said the 49-year-old in an interview with the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” when asked whether he would stay with VfB regardless of league affiliation.

The former scout from Borussia Dortmund and FC Arsenal has been working for the Swabians since April 2019. Despite the great danger of relegation, he wants to stick to his path of relying on many young players. “Our clearly formulated milestone this year is to stay up. To have to fight for it, as we clearly predicted several times, shouldn’t lead to questioning everything here again and suddenly hiring five 32-year-old players,” said Mislintat before the Home game on Saturday against VfL Wolfsburg (3.30 p.m. / Sky).

Despite the 0: 2 at the relegation competitor Hertha BSC last weekend, Mislintat took his pros under his protection. “Here, however, there is no player who doesn’t care about the club or who doesn’t give everything to remain first-class with VfB. There is also no player who is already thinking about another club,” he said: “If If this team couldn’t handle the pressure, we would have been relegated by now.”
