Misinformation spread about Kymiring – Now the new owner is speaking

According to the new company’s CEO, Kymiring will open its doors in the summer.

The trading saga of Kymiring located in Iiti came to an end. The motor track is now owned by the Hungarian company TRP Hungary.

Iltalehti reached the CEO of Finland Motorsport Circuit Holding oy, the company behind Kymiring Kornel Öryn by email to answer questions.

The deal was reported for the first time months ago, but it only became official now. What happened?

– The news that came in October was not true, as the company’s bankruptcy process was still ongoing for months. Legal difficulties delayed it. We were still always willing to agree on deals.

What was the purchase price?

– The details of the deal are confidential information.

Kymiring and its bankruptcy has aroused a lot of emotions. What is your message to Finns and motorsport fans?

– I heard about the Kymiring project for the first time in 2017. It seemed really interesting, because projects of this size are concentrated in the Middle and Far East.

Kymiring has been in the works for years. In the end, the original company went bankrupt last spring. Mikko Huisko

– I am a fan of motor sports and when I got to know the original plans, I believed that such a sensibly planned and versatile track would be a huge success in Finland. In your country, motorsport is like a mixed sport. Great champions and legends have come from Finland.

– I still believe in success. Our vision is to make Kymiring the leading sports and entertainment center in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

“According to our plans, we will build the leading sports and entertainment center in the Nordic and Baltic countries.” What does that mean in practice? How close are we to Kymiring’s completion? What are your long-term goals?

– The pit building and certain basic buildings must be completed first before the doors can be opened to guests next summer. A plan has been drawn up for the phasing of the investments, and with that the track can be developed year by year.

– Kymiringi has other development opportunities than just the track section – for example, a driver’s training center, a science center, retail outlets, a hotel, a clubhouse and rental buildings.

– The goal is that Kymiring works all year round. It can be implemented in 3–5 years.

Goal: MotoGP

Kymiring is still unfinished. Mikko Huisko

When will Kymiring and its new owners be ready to host the first events?

– In the coming summer, we will start experiments both for the events and the track. Then private tests, company events, club-level competitions and open track days are organized so that we can gather experiences and feedback. With their help, we can get to the bottom of our target groups and infrastructure and service development needs.

Regarding Kymiring, there has also been talk of a MotoGP goal. What is the situation now? When could a MotoGP race be held at Kymiring?

– We progress one step at a time. We start with small local and national competitions. Then we move to the European level competitions and slowly towards the World Cup level. We are still aiming to get MotoGP to Kymiring, but we don’t want to rush.

– We need to get FIM ratification, and that still requires work. Those are questions from the safety side of the track. At the same time, we need to develop as an organization in order to be able to organize a major international event.

The CEO of TRP Hungary is Tamas Öry. The members of the investor consortium are reported Alex Rabb, Balazs Kerek mixed Mika Wilska. Wilska manages several business incubator projects in Germany. He comes from near Kouvola.
