‘Mirror walkers’ leave a trail of destruction through Overstort and De Uitlaat

Broken car mirrors and things that disappear from the garden. Three vandals kept a lot of house in Grootebroek last weekend. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, vandalism was committed in several places in the village. “The mirrors of at least 11 cars have been found to be smashed.”

On the night of Saturday 19 June, three ‘mirror-runners’ kept house in the Overstort and De Uitlaat. On Sunday morning, Thea Boelens was unpleasantly surprised. “We had to leave that morning. When my husband got into the car, he was suddenly shocked: ‘Damn, my mirrors are gone’

Boelens immediately walks to her own car. “And here too the mirrors were kicked off.” A neighbor who lives a few houses away was also hit. “I went to see her. She is 86 years old and has difficulty walking. When I told her what had happened, she burst into tears. She had to have surgery the next day and the car is her only means of transport. Do those boys realize that what they’re doing? So unnecessary.”

The ‘pass’ garlands for her son, which hung in the front yard, have also been taken. “As if we are not granted it. It is deeply sad, they should be ashamed of themselves.”

11 mirrors

After her post on Facebook, the reactions are pouring in. “Four residents are killed in Overstort, seven in De Uitlaat. And apparently it has happened before.” Despite the fact that the damage is not too bad, a few tens at most, Boelens does not understand it at all. “What’s funny about this? It’s still 50 euros that we have to cough up. Hopefully they find the perpetrators quickly, so that we can recover the damage from them.”

Police confirm the incident and are taking the matter seriously. “Several reports (8) have already been made. A neighborhood investigation is currently being conducted,” says a spokesperson. “We are therefore looking for witnesses and camera images.”
