The start of the new football year will begin with a minute’s silence for FC Bayern. As the German Football League announced on Tuesday, a minute’s silence will be held in honor of Franz Beckenbauer in all stadiums in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. The 17th matchday starts with the duel between Beckenbauer’s former club against TSG Hoffenheim this Friday evening (from 8.30 p.m. in the radio report). In addition, all teams should wear a mourning ribbon.
Mourning ribbon at FC Bayern training
The Munich footballers have already put on their mourning ribbon during training in memory of the honorary president of the German record champions. In addition, before the start of the session at midday, coach Thomas Tuchel and his players posed with a current FCB jersey with a “Thank you Franz” print and an original jersey of the former exceptional footballer.
Beckenbauer wore the jersey on June 26, 1965 in the promotion round to the Bundesliga in the historic 8-0 win against Tennis Borussia Berlin.

The German record champions would also like to commemorate his legend. In memory of Franz Beckenbauer, the Munich Allianz Arena was given special lighting on Tuesday. In the coming days, the stadium will also shine with the words “Thank you Franz” from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The lighting will therefore also be visible at the end of the Bundesliga home game of the German soccer record champions against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (8:30 p.m.) on Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge wants a big memorial service for Beckenbauer in Munich’s Allianz Arena.
The city of Munich presents a book of condolence
Meanwhile, the city of Munich has set up a condolence book. The book is available on the second floor of the town hall, as the city of Munich announced on Tuesday. This way people can say goodbye to Beckenbauer until Friday.
Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) expressed his condolences to Beckenbauer’s widow and all other relatives. “The world has lost one of the best footballers of all time and we have all lost a great person whose kindness and compassion are raved about by everyone who had the luck and honor of getting to know him,” wrote Reiter.
