Mintzlaff apparently leaves RB Leipzig – becomes the new Red Bull boss

After the death of Mateschitz

A decisive change is looming at the management level at RB Leipzig. As the “Picture” reported, the previous managing director Oliver Mintzlaff will leave Saxony to follow in the footsteps of the recently deceased patron Dietrich Mateschitz in the “Red Bull” group. The 47-year-old Mintzlaff will be responsible for “Corporate Projects and Investments” in the future and will therefore be responsible for all sporting activities outside of football.

RB Leipzig did not expect financial losses after the death of “Red Bull” founder Mateschitz. “I don’t expect or fear any changes in the support from Red Bull. We will continue what was built and developed here with the same passion and motivation in the future,” Mintzlaff recently told “Sport Bild”. He also received no signals that anything would change in the future.

When Mintzlaff joined the club, it played as a promoted player in the second division. After two years in the second division, things continued in the upper house of football, where up until then they had always finished between 2nd and 6th place. In terms of squad value, the “Red Bulls” are currently even just ahead of BVB.

The Austrian beverage billionaire Mateschitz died just over a week ago at the age of 78. In addition to RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg, his sports empire also includes the ice hockey club Red Bull Munich and the Formula 1 teams Red Bull and Alpha Tauri. Mateschitz was not the sole owner of “Red Bull”, the majority of the shares are owned by a family in Thailand.
