Minneapolis settles case over cop who killed George Floyd | Abroad

The case revolved around two incidents from 2017 in which the complainants were allegedly treated racially. John Pope Jr was 14 years old when police officers came to his house because of a report of domestic violence. Chauvin allegedly hit him with a flashlight and pressed his knee to the ground, as Chauvin had done to Floyd. Chauvin is also said to have pinned the other complainant, Zoya Code, to the ground with his knee on her neck.

Pope receives $ 7.5 million (6.7 million euros) from the city of Minneapolis, Code $ 1.4 million (1.3 million euros).

Floyd’s death sparked widespread protests against police brutality and racism in the United States. Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for Floyd’s murder.
