The campaign draws attention to the benefits of using car sharing among people with a driver’s license who live in urban areas.

During the campaign launch, passers-by were introduced to car sharing by, for example, talking to people who already use a shared car. Visitors also tested their knowledge with a car sharing quiz. Many people are not yet known with the concept of car sharing. According to research by I&O, 28 percent of respondents are open to using a shared car within the next five years. In addition, people indicate that they are open to it if car sharing is available in their area. The number of shared cars will be in 2023 increased by 23 percent to 7,920. Of these shared cars, 48 percent are electric.

Accessible and sustainable

State Secretary Heijnen: “The accessibility of the entire Netherlands is a challenge. With smart solutions such as shared cars, we ensure that more people find a way to a business appointment, a family visit or a day out. For those who do not need their own car every day, a shared car is an excellent solution, for example if you have to transport large items. It contributes to the cabinet’s ambitions to reduce CO2.emissions, especially because a growing share of shared cars are electric and shared cars provide more space on the street. With this campaign we want to show people the benefits of car sharing.”

Councilor Kapteijns: “The Hague is a growing city, but we also want it to remain a liveable city. With the launch of the ‘Sharing makes your world more beautiful’ campaign, we want to underline the importance of shared mobility and encourage its use. The use of shared mobility not only saves money on your wallet, but gives residents of The Hague the freedom to travel easily and flexibly. In addition, the pressure on our road network is reduced, we improve air quality and create more space for greenery.”
