BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The building ministers of the federal states have warned against focusing too much on social housing in the funding policy. A new balance is needed between privately financed and socially subsidized housing, according to a joint resolution after the building ministers’ conference in Berlin on Friday. Socially subsidized housing cannot meet the need for affordable housing for broad sections of the population. Therefore, sufficient and plannable subsidies are also needed for the new building, which is not subject to occupancy and rent restrictions.
The ministers of the federal states discussed together with Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD) how to deal with the results of the “Alliance for Affordable Housing”. In general, further constructive cooperation of the countries in the alliance is planned. However, the federal states also insist on their responsibilities in legislation.
Regardless of the energy price crisis, the federal government wants to achieve the goal of 400,000 new homes per year. This should succeed with around 190 measures, which the construction industry, trade unions, states, municipalities and other associations in the “Alliance for Affordable Housing” agreed on in mid-October./dhu/ols/DP/nas
