Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu talked about the successes of Turkish sports



Youth and Sports Minister Kasapoğlu met with the sports directors of media organizations at the year-end evaluation meeting at the Presidency Dolmabahçe Work Office.


Expressing that Turkey is now at the top in branches where it could not even send a representative in the past, Kasapoğlu said this year, “Turkey won medals in 51 branches. Previously, this did not exceed the fingers of one hand.” said.


Indicating that Turkey has won more than 20 thousand medals in international organizations in the last 4 years, Kasapoğlu said that Turkish athletes won 6,127 international medals in 2022.


Noting that they are also doing important work in basketball, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “We have achieved the goal of 10 thousand hoops,” and stated that the positive effect of street basketball will be seen in the coming years.


Kasapoğlu stated that steps have been taken to strengthen the access of individuals with disabilities to sports. Underlining the success in the disabled branches, Kasapoğlu said, “No success is a coincidence.” He emphasized the investments made in the branches of the disabled.


Noting that 1 million 300 thousand young people are screened every year to measure their fitness for sports and after comprehensive tests, the young people who successfully pass these screenings are directed to branches, Minister Kasapoğlu stated that it is their goal to create an athlete pool with 8 thousand athletes.


Underlining that Turkey hosts many international sports events, Kasapoğlu said, “In 2022, we held 180 international events.” gave the information.
