Minister in consultation with farmers in Langemark

In order to drastically reduce nitrogen in Flanders, some farmers will be forced to stop their activities due to the new nitrogen regulation. Others will have to reduce their livestock or invest in new technologies. Many farmers are angry and wanted to make a few things clear to the minister.

“I also understand that they are angry. But the question is who should they be angry at. I am trying to tackle the problems. We had that nitrogen ruling. The risk of going to a permit stop, that we could do nothing more in Flanders was big. That happened in the Netherlands: driving 90 km per hour, building nothing anymore. I wanted to avoid that at all costs,” explains Minister Zuhal Demir.

The farmers hope that some of their ideas will get into the cabinets and they will get to work with them.
