From October 22 to 27, Minister Helder (Long-Term Care and Sports) will pay a working visit to Beijing, Hebei province, Shanghai and Hong Kong. This working visit focuses on elderly care and dementia care. Several researchers and administrators from long-term care in the Netherlands will participate in the visit.
Minister Conny Helder: “With the ‘defeating dementia‘conference of October 2, an important step has already been taken in international cooperation on the subject of dementia. Now with my visit to China I am taking the next step. Just like the Netherlands, China also faces a major challenge with an aging society. The number of people with dementia is also growing in both countries. We jointly face major challenges to keep care and support accessible and affordable. That is why I want to visit China to see how they are dealing with these challenges and what we can learn from each other.”
Beijing
The minister will be in Beijing from October 22 to 25. There she speaks with, among others, the National Health Commissionthe National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Civil Affairsthe General Administration of Sport and the China Disabled Persons Federation. Minister Helder will also give a speech at the International Forum on Senior Care Science and Innovation.
In addition to these talks in Beijing, the minister will travel to Hebei province to discuss two new Cruyff courts to open. These are football fields made of artificial grass that motivate a neighborhood to play sports and games.
Shanghai
The minister will make several working visits in Shanghai on October 25 in the context of dementia. For example, she visits a nursing home where a lot of attention is paid to dementia and the use of technology. She also visits a memory café where elderly people with dementia continue to train their memory. She will also speak to various experts and scientists in Shanghai about aging and dementia.
On October 26, Minister Helder will speak at the Sino-Dutch seminar on dementia care.
Hong-Kong
On the last day, October 27, Minister Helder is in Hong Kong to speak with the authorities there and she visits the seminar, among other things. Defeating Dementia Together.
