Ruben Huyghe, local resident: “Wind turbines of this size are usually only installed in industrial or port zones, where the impact on the living environment is limited. In Flanders, there are hardly or no turbines of this size in rural areas. The turbine in Beselare would therefore set a precedent that could have far-reaching consequences for other rural municipalities.”
The minister does impose a number of conditions so that the adverse effects are brought to what he considers an acceptable level. Local residents are now considering whether they can take further steps.
