Minister Demir: “Ventilus decision before the summer recess”

The Flemish government must now take the plunge and the intention is to do so before the summer. The action groups are stepping up their protest, because they want the line completely underground. But Ventilus must form the back-up for the Stevin project, that is the high-voltage line between Zeebrugge and Zomergem (in East Flanders). And that is very difficult to realize underground, as it turns out.

Flemish Minister for the Environment Zuhal Demir: “If we go underground, we will not yet have a backup for Stevin and that is of course problematic. And a solution must also be sought. And two, there are of course the concerns of many West Flemings, whom we must reconcile with both matters. The intention is to make a decision before the summer recess.”
