Miniature dachshund Bruce (5) was patched up with 30 stitches – after he was torn by an American bulldog on the street.

Bruce (6 kilos) survived the attack with serious injuries. Its owner is still in shock.
On Friday, Franz Spieß (72) walked along Ollenhauerstraße (Reinickendorf) with the dachshund on a leash. Spiess: “Suddenly an American Bulldog shot out of a gate, grabbed Bruce and ran off with him in his mouth.”
The dachshund owner let go of the leash and followed. The bulldog’s owner also came running. “He yelled at his dog, but he didn’t react, kept shaking my Bruce back and forth,” says Spieß.
The drama lasted an anxious one and a half minutes: “Only after the owner grabbed the dog from behind and pinched his breath did he let go of Bruce.”
At the vet, the little dachshund was x-rayed. “The bite of the massive dog just missed the spine. But the injuries were so bad that the vet didn’t give me much hope,” says Spieß.

He reported the bulldog owner: “Why was this fighting dog not on a leash and without a muzzle?” In Bavaria, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia they are among the dangerous list dogs. Not in Berlin.
But even the slight Bruce is a fighter. Experienced!
