Minerva Cycling Team continues operation after founder’s death

On Saturday 30 April, the Grand Prix Daniël Carpentier will be held in Elverdinge. Filip set the course as a tribute to his father and former professional cyclist Daniël Carpentier. “Now that match is more than ever a tribute to Filip,” says team manager Gilbert Orbie.

Minverva says that continuing the team would be the wish of Filip Carpentier, who founded the cycling team last year. He will be buried on Saturday in Noordschote, near Lo-Reninge.

Riders of the Minerva Cycling team include Stefano Museeuw, Gil D’Heygere, Gilles Borra, Kenneth Caethoven, Thimo Willems and Thomas Joseph. The latter ensured the team’s very first victory in Templeuve on March 9. Former Belgian champion Preben Van Hecke is the sports director and Johan Museeuw is the team’s advisor.

The Minerva Cycling Team has already completed a nice program with participations in, among others, the Challenge Mallorca, the GP Jean-Pierre Monseré and Nokere Koerse. In addition to the cycling team, Minerva was also active as a sponsor in cycling and name sponsor of the WorldTour race Minerva Classic Brugge-De Panne.
