The city of Wuhan, where the corona pandemic started at the end of 2019, has more than 11 million inhabitants. According to Bloomberg news agency, there are concerns in the city that strict corona measures will be imposed on a wider part of the population. China has a policy of trying to completely eradicate corona and does not shy away from harsh measures such as lockdowns.
A lockdown of the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai was recently lifted after two months. Residents must be regularly tested for the coronavirus. To keep the economy going, factories set up living quarters for workers to continue working.
Strict corona measures currently also apply in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, where hundreds of large companies have to limit contact with the outside world due to several dozen corona infections.
Earlier this week, it became clear that an animal market in Wuhan was “the early epicenter of the pandemic.” A group of international researchers, including virologist Marion Koopmans, concluded this in an article in the important scientific journal Science.
