Million dollar battle between Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and the DFB?

The dispute between current national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and the German Football Association (DFB) is apparently about a lot of money.

As “Bild” reports, the 55-year-old could be entitled to a sum of millions if his contract with the DFB is terminated. Background: Voss-Tecklenburg’s contract as national coach was only extended last year – until 2025.

The tabloid further writes that there is a risk of legal dispute in the case despite a meeting scheduled for the next few days. Both sides are already talking to each other “primarily” through lawyers, as the DFB announced.

Voss-Tecklenburg was initially on sick leave after the botched World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand. Most recently, she was on a “recovery vacation” approved by the DFB. Meanwhile, she made public appearances, which led to new irritations, including in her relationship with the national players.

The news magazine “Spiegel” reported on Tuesday that the team’s latest developments were met with “surprise and anger.”

National team: First cracks after the 2019 World Cup?

It was said that the national players had not known about Voss-Tecklenburg’s recent appearances outside of her work at the DFB until last weekend, when the issue became public.

The relationship between the team and the coach seems to be “severely strained”. It is “unclear” whether Voss-Tecklenburg will return to her post, the “Spiegel” continued.

On Wednesday, another “Spiegel” report said, citing those around the DFB team, that there had already been cracks in the relationship between her and the team after Voss-Tecklenburg’s first tournament, the 2019 World Cup.

However, the successful EM 2022 hid the problems. Now they are bigger than ever.
