Mill de Vlijt in Meppel becomes the second mustard mill in the Netherlands: ‘First on land, that sounds better’

Molen de Vlijt has the status of a municipal monument in Meppel. It received this status in 2020. It helps the mill when applying for subsidies.

It is located just outside the city center, right on the canal and is surrounded by houses. People live at the bottom of the mill, in the hull. Just over 200 meters away is the other mill in Meppel: the De Weert mill, where they grind wheat.

Mill De Vlijt dates from 1832, but nothing remains of the original mill after it burned down in 1858. The mill was immediately rebuilt, but this time of stone.

The mill fell into disrepair from the 1930s onwards. The blades, among other things, disappeared and around 1960 only the stone hull was left. Until 2000, when the rebuilding of the mill started.
