This year Milky Chance reached one billion streams on Spotify with their debut single “Stolen Dance” (2013). This makes the band from Kassel the first German band to join Queen or Nirvana in Spotify’s “One Billion Streams Club”.

The award by Spotify

On Wednesday (November 16) the formation was honored by Spotify in Berlin. The musicians said about it, as stated in the press release: “Reaching a billion streams with “Stolen Dance” is an incredible success for us and difficult to understand. We owe that to our amazing fans, many of whom have been with us since that first album and Stolen Dance. Two years ago we decided to become independent and we are pleased that we have found the right partner for this path in “Believe” and that we can now celebrate this milestone together.”

Here is our interview with the band. As part of the Greentech Festival, ROLLING STONE recognized Milky Chance for its commitment to green sustainability concepts.

On Wednesday (November 16) at Spotify in Berlin, we met to join the “One Billion Streams Club”: Front from left: Mara Spitz (Spotify), Johanna Herzer Santana (“Wasted Talent”, Milky Chance Management), Philipp Dausch and Clemens Rehbein (both Milky Chance), Dennis Hadan (“Believe”), Conny Zhang (Spotify), back from left: Björn Deparade (“Wasted Talent”, Milky Chance Management), Robert Steiger (“Muggelig Records”, Label Milky Chance), Thorsten Freese, Cornelius Bertling and Florian Wendlandt (all “Believe”) (Photo: Viktor Schanz, source: “Believe PR”)
