Life can always be crazier, but also, it turns out, more complicated. Brandpunt+ (‘a group of young makers who tell journalistic stories’ on NPO3) reports that milk has become a ‘dog whistle of the extreme right’.
The acidification started with a bunch of Trump supporters who shouted racist slogans with a liter pack in hand, then spread via the hashtag #MilkTwitter, and so now types like Eva Vlaardingenbroek are posing with a few sturdy milk bottles in their arm. The idea behind it: drinking milk would help to counteract ‘the weakening of the white race’.
Holy cow! Not an easy message for someone like me, who grew up with the commercials of Joris Driepinter, who derived the same primal power from his three daily glasses of milk as Popeye from a can of spinach. ‘Milk is good for everyone’ was the slogan at the time. That should now become something like: ‘Milk, a glass every day helps the white race’ or ‘Milk, Lancelot also loves it’.
