Milestone! Watch here how the first pool of the new swimming pool is filled with water

On Wednesday morning, September 27, the competition pool in the new swimming pool in the Van Tuyllpark was ready to be filled with water. The editors of indebuurt Zoetermeer came by to see with their own eyes how it works.

It will take at least two weeks until the competition pool is filled to the brim with 2.5 million liters of water.

Brush first

Before the tap could be opened, a team of cleaners had to clean the twenty-meter pool with a vacuum cleaner and a bucket of soapy water. “There is a lot of dust in the bath,” says project manager Arie Loef. “The tiles are cleaned with mops and cleaning cloths and, to be sure, we check whether all tiles are intact. Repairing these in advance is easier than if the water is already in them.”

Fill slowly

The clean drinking water enters the bath through a relatively thin hose. Arie explains why this does not go faster: “The concrete is warm, and the water is a lot colder. To prevent cracking, we must allow the water to flow slowly into the bath.” Executive Rick Eijkemans adds: “Every day, approximately eight cubic meters of water enter the competition pool. When this is ready, we will fill the target group pool and then the other pools.”

Keep clean water

After filling the bath, the clean drinking water passes through the sand, carbon and UV filters. Chemical chlorine is then added for hygiene. All lost water is replenished with new tap water. Consider water that remains in your swimwear and is washed away in the shower.

Construction of the new swimming pool will be completed in December. Then comes the design of the catering industry and they will start on the outdoor area, with sunbathing areas and play equipment. The new swimming pool will open before the summer. We will keep you informed!
