Milcobel removes abbey cheese from trade because it may contain listeria

It concerns abbey cheese of 230 grams of the Carrefour brand, sold in various Carrefour branches and in Mestdagh stores. Carrefour has decided in consultation with the federal food agency to recall the products from consumers. The products have been withdrawn from the market. “Consumers in possession of the above products are asked not to consume them and to return them to their point of sale, where they will be refunded,” explains Carrefour.

The supermarket chain advises people who have eaten the above products and who show symptoms such as fever and/or headache to consult their doctor. These symptoms may be more severe in young children, pregnant women, the elderly, or individuals with reduced immunity.

In April, the listeria bacterium was discovered in one of the brine baths of the Milcobel factory in Moorslede.
