On the Sanremo stage, two years (minus one day…) from the start of Milan-Cortina 2026, the mascots of the five-circle event were presented: they are two stoats. Tina, with a light coat, for the Olympics (6-26 February) and Milo, with a brown coat, for the Paralympics (6-15 March). The names are the diminutives of the protagonist locations. They are the fruit of long creative work which, in collaboration with the organizing committee and the ministry of education, involved over 1600 students from all over Italy. Accompanying them are their adventure companions, six little snowdrops, “I Flo”.

breath of fresh air

In the midst of the controversies that have so far accompanied the third Italian Winter Olympics, especially in relation to the bobsled, skeleton and luge track in Cortina, a necessary breath of fresh air. At the Ariston, accompanying Tina and Milo in their official debut in the club were Giovanni Malagò, president of Coni and the Milano-Cortina 2026 Foundation and Federico Barra representing the Istituto Comprensivo di Taverna, in the province of Catanzaro, the school that most a year ago he had proposed the idea of stoats.

It is Amadeus, of course, who introduces the presentation. “We are very grateful to the Festival – Malagò tells him – because, by hosting us for the fourth consecutive year, it demonstrates attention and sensitivity. The event is only two years away and it will be a beautiful thing.” Then it’s Federico’s turn, “young, strong and fierce” as Amadeus defines him, who tells the story of the genesis of the mascots. There is an animated video-story with the ermine brothers as protagonists, who then arrive “in the flesh” on stage. “They will travel the world and represent Italy” announces the presenter. “And since sport is also a team game – adds the student – together with them there will also be mountain flowers, snowdrops, proposed by the other finalist school”. The homage for Amadeus is de rigueur: a white T-shirt with Tina and Milo clearly visible.
