Milan, new stadium in San Donato: hotels, restaurants, museum, how it will be

In addition to the plant, the company also plans a hotel, a park, a museum and…

Stefano Pioli defined himself as the architect of the new Milan, thinking of the team still under construction. Projects, renderings, graphic projections are in AC Milan’s current situation also as regards the stadium. For Pioli there is already a solid basis on which to intervene with some changes. The new home of Milan, on the other hand, has everything to do, starting from the foundations. Today it exists on paper: the club’s goal is that it can be realized between 2028 and 2029.

park and museum

The goal is to equip the club with its own, modern and multifunctional facility, which will multiply revenues and allow it to bridge the gap with the big European teams. It is the idea on which all of Gerry Cardinale’s business is based, supported in the works by the Rossoneri president Scaroni, by the CEO Furlani and the expert consultants of CAA Icon. Another belief is that the stadium shouldn’t just host the sporting event, but be a city attraction, an area that is open and alive every day of the week. It is not only theory, but already practical: in the various planning drawings the area of San Francesco, within the municipality of San Donato, is structured as follows. The stadium, of course, but also hotels, restaurants, shops, an interactive museum as exists in other realities, perhaps an adventure park dedicated to children. Many different ways to offer Milan fans solutions to spend time before and after the match and more: the location would remain active even on days without matches. A system that develops the union between sport and entertainment of which the Cardinal himself is a proud supporter. A red and black citadel that can attract supporters, fans, families: an American vision of sport, which can generate further profits. Meanwhile, the expense: huge. The number one of RedBird, the American fund that owns AC Milan, is ready to invest one billion euros in the new stadium.

next steps

There is no definitive project yet, but there will be: today the representatives of the parties are studying the exact location of the new plant. The area has now been identified: Milan and Sport Life City, owner of the area, have signed a (non-binding) agreement which has become the first official step of a long journey, the premise for then entering a real operational phase. Contacts between Milan and the Municipality are constant, they will also continue in the next few days and then resume in September. San Donato is the chosen area: appreciated for its position, also decisive for its commercial implications; it would be the gate to the city, the first large building seen by those arriving in Milan from the south. A natural attraction for sponsors. Still on the subject of geographical coordinates, San Donato, and the San Francesco area in particular, would have direct access to the ring road and the possibility of reaching the stadium also by underground and railway: new connections are also being studied from the Rogoredo station for transit of the fans. And then, the times: this is where Milan could finally accelerate. A decisive aspect after months of stops and starts. The club wants to enter its new stadium by 2028, at the latest by 2029. The architects, not just Pioli, are at work.
