Milan football players were treated racist on a round against racism

Some AC Milan footballers have been confronted with racism after the league match against Cagliari. Goalkeeper Mike Maignan and defender Fikayo Tomori were racially treated by supporters of the home club immediately afterwards. The Italian Football Association FIGC announced an investigation.

Milan, the leader of the Serie A, beat Cagliari 1-0 on the island of Sardinia. French keeper Maignan and English defender Tomori heard racist slogans from the stands behind the goal afterwards. Maignan reacted furiously and put his hand behind his ear a little defiantly. The Cagliari players were not pleased with that. It led to some clashes on the field between players from both clubs.

This round in the Serie A is all about the fight against racism. “We still have a long way to go and must fight together to end racism,” Milan wrote on Twitter after Cagliari’s win.

Trainer Stefano Pioli heard from Maignan and Tomori that they had been treated racist. “It’s always sad when something like this happens, nobody deserves something like this,” said the Italian.
