Miki Liukkonen’s last months were full of hopeless thoughts: “I’ve been very unwell”

Miki Liukkonen has spoken openly about, among other things, his mental health problems.

Author Miki Liukkonen died unexpectedly on July 4, which was reported on Wednesday. Liukkonen’s cause of death has not been made public.

Liukkonen spoke openly in public about, among other things, his mental health problems, his alcoholism and his severe periods of depression.

Liukkonen opened his dark thoughts to his more than 17.5 thousand Instagram followers in his social media posts. For example, at the end of April, Liukkonen took a stand on a social problem where people do not easily get the help they need.

– “You can only get a break if you are clear, you can only get therapy if you are healthy. So is this world!” Somehow, this is how I told my friend, when once again I had come across the Kafka-like bureaucracy of mt services, those strange attitudes and whatnot, which ultimately led to me giving up on the whole thing. Just then I was “fired” by an excellent therapist, because according to him I was simply too depressed for him to help me, Liukkonen opened in his publication.

Within a month, among other things, Liukkonen finished writing his novel and visited On the Christoffer Strandberg Show. Towards the end of May, however, Liukkonen brought it up in the long run Instagram– in his writing, that the struggle with his own anxiety is not over.

– I have been very unwell lately. I wake up in the morning with panic and terror, the evenings are also terrible. I do not know. This feeling, this pain is impossible to describe. What it actually is, where it comes from, etc. (Of course, the reason is partly clear to many.), Liukkonen began.

– I feel like I’m going crazy. Or from sadness only obliquely. For every cell to die would be black. My mind is just sorrow and I think of myself, far away, separate from myself and fuzzy, Liukkonen added.

– I follow the terrible blossoming of life in spring with sadness and envy, I am not a part of it. And everything, everything is just and only Grim. This is the situation. I can’t take it, Liukkonen concluded his publication.

At the end of June, Liukkonen was a little happy in his update, when his Elisabet poetry collection was published in France. The moment in question was important for the author, because the collection is dedicated to his late mother, who always wanted to get to France.

– In her last days, mother talked about her desire to travel to Paris. “When that van Gogh’s yellow is so beautiful,” said the mother. The sky was frosty. But we never made it to Paris. Instead, I made this piece, with the blood of a heart flame, very quickly and with a bang and all that, Liukkonen opened in his publication.

In 2012, the Oulu Writers’ Association awarded Liukkonen the Nuori Pakkala literary award. PASI LEISMA

Liukkonen’s friends have also opened up about their last meetings and thoughts with the writing talent.

– I love people with whom I skip small talk. Miki didn’t know the whole sport at all and that was a gift. From the beginning, we talked about the darkest recesses and big secrets of mental health and illness, even though our contact was completely random. Sometimes we were just quiet, no pressure. It was wonderful! Liukkonen’s writer friend Laura Freeman recalled in his Instagram post.

– His enormous creativity and sensory intensity have remained in my mind. Miki saw words and letters as colors, colors as words and the surrounding world as music. Linguistically, he could do anything, Liukkonen’s close friend, a cartoonist Ville Ranta said to Iltalehte.

– I knew and saw you in a different way than others and I am grateful that you were a part of my life. Our relationship was beautiful until the end. I am shocked and broken to the core and I hope for peace from the media and the entire circle, Liukkonen’s ex-partner singer Behm wrote in his Instagram post.

– Miki often told me that life is too much for him. He poured this feeling into his novels, of which the masterful Elämä: prelude (2021) showed everything that was human in a fluid, funny and so precise way that its author seemed to carry many lives, many personalities, many worlds within him. Now they’re all gone, publisher Samuli Knuuti regretted in the WSOY bulletin.

In September, Liukkonen’s novel, which bears the name, will be published posthumously Guest mode. Ilta-Sanom according to Liukkonen O-successful novel (2017) is currently being written into a film script, the author of which signed the contract about a week before his death.
