Mike Shinoda updated fans on Twitch on April 22, 2022 regarding the status of Linkin Park, stating that he and the rest of the band speak to each other every few weeks. He also said that the band is currently unable to tour.
Band members are still in contact
During a recent live stream, the rapper, singer, keyboardist, and guitarist gave an update on the band’s near future: “The only Linkin Park news I have for you guys is that… yeah, we talk every few weeks, – I’m talking to the guys or some of the guys,” Shinoda said. “And there’s no touring, there’s no music, there’s no albums in the pipeline. Okay, let me just tell you this. So just realize that’s not going to happen.”
“I’ll just say so much for now,” he continued. “I say that because every time the band says or does something, everyone’s trying to start the hype train and we’re like, ‘No, no, no, no. Don’t start the hype train. You will disappoint yourself.”
Emotionally and creatively not ready for a tour
In addition, Shinoda explained why there is no tour planned at the moment: “For me it’s like, ‘Okay, physically I could still tour.’ This part is good. Hopefully that won’t change in the near future. But now is not the right time (for the band’s return). We don’t focus on that. We didn’t let the bill add up. And I don’t mean the financial math, I mean the emotional and creative math.”

New singer? Chester Bennington is not to be replaced
Former Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington committed suicide on July 20, 2017. In 2019, Shinoda denied reports that Linkin Park was actively looking for a new frontman. When asked if the group would ever look for another singer, Shinoda told Rock Antenne, “That’s not my goal right now. I think it has to happen naturally. And if we find someone who’s a great person who we think is a good personality and style match for us, then I could see myself doing something with someone.” He added that a possible cast change does not take place to replace Bennington. After all, he never wanted to feel like they were replacing Chester.
