Mike Rutherford gave new impressions of the final Genesis concert. Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Phil Collins said their goodbyes a little over a year ago, on March 26th, 2022, with a – of course sold out – show at London’s O2 Arena.

They were accompanied by touring musicians Daryl Stuermer, Nic Collins, Daniel Pearce and Patrick Smyth. (And: Peter Gabriel was at least in the audience.)

Mike Rutherford got emotional

Rutherford sums it up, as NME reports: “The actual show felt bizarre. I was doing reasonably well until I saw on my setlist that there were only four songs left. Seeing this in print made me emotional but after going through all the struggles with Covid it felt really good to finish things.”

He described the last tour (“The Last Domino?”) as a “joy” and added: “I tend to forget how much music means to people’s lives. For example, we played a few shows in America, a city we hadn’t played in 30 years, and both nights were sold out. This proves the reach of Genesis. It was a bit sad but I really enjoyed our last tour. It’s always a pleasure to be on stage with Phil and Tony.” It seems unlikely that Genesis will ever be on stage again. In another interview, Rutherford pointed out that 72-year-old Phil Collins is currently receiving more medical care than ever before.
