Mikael Pyyhtiä has no idea where he will play this season.
PETRI SAARELAINEN / AOP
Columbus Blue Jackets or TPS. There are the star striker Mikael Pyyhtien club options for the starting season.
– On Monday, after the TPS CHL trip, I will go to the training camp in Columbus. There is no information about the length of the trip. It’s just been said that Monday is the departure, Pyyhtiä tells Iltalehte.
– I can’t say at all where I will play this season. I will give my all at the camp there. If it’s not enough (for an NHL spot), then I’ll come back to Teps for a year, the winger continues.
– The goal is to stay there. After all, this is a somewhat new and stressful situation. The departure is ahead, but you don’t know what will happen. But let’s do what we’re told, thinks the Blue Jackets’ fourth-round selection from summer 2020.
Breakthrough season
TPS’s own grower made his mark in the League last season. The winger scored 21 goals and 35 power points in 56 matches.
Wipes formed Juuso Pärssisen and Markus Nurmen with the first team from Turku, who carried TPS all the way to the final.
The trio was very popular in Turku. It scored a total of 106 power points in the regular season.
Nurmi won the point exchange for the playoffs. Pärssinen became one of the league’s best center forwards.
– We are also friends outside the rink. We knew each other from before. Chemistry met on the ice. It was a good chain, where it was good to play, Wipe times.
The whole trio goes to measure their level behind the rapako. Nurmi and Pärssinen are the men of the Nashville Predators.
Development
Jaakko Stenroos
Pyyhtia trained with TPS during the summer.
– It’s been a long time since I got a full training summer. There was no army and no ailments to rehabilitate.
– It feels like I moved on. There was more power and overall development. That’s why I feel confident going into the new season.
A better league
The rules are that if Pyyhti doesn’t fit in the Blue Jackets’ NHL team, he will return to Teps. Only the bookings of the first round can be sent to the farm league AHL.
So there may still be a lot of joy for TPS fans from the youngster.
– In Oulu and Helsinki, a lot has been invested in teams. Many clubs have opened their wallets. It will be a tough series this season – better and more sophisticated than last season, the 20-year-old striker says.
– Even as a pre-favorite, I don’t refer them to anyone. Turku has a good and competitive team. A playoff spot is the minimum goal, and it must be taken. It’s pointless to take on any more success pressure, even though TPS has won silver twice in a row, says Pyyhtiä.
