Rapper Mikael Gabriel participates in the New Music competition with Estonian rapper Nublu. A duo song Vox populi implemented half in Finnish and half in Estonian.
Mikael says that he became interested in the New Music competition especially because it is a unique opportunity for an artist. The positive and enthusiastic atmosphere surrounding the competition has also impressed Mikael. Nublu also says that he is very impressed by the Finnish competition.
– Thirty people are making a music video, some are thinking about their outfits and some are thinking about what’s going on on stage.. It’s a great thing to be part of this kind of artist, says Mikael.

In Mikael’s opinion, the New Music competition has received a successful facelift. In previous years, Mikael already received calls from his fans to participate in the competition, but he was not even interested in it at that time.
– I always thought that it wasn’t for me. UMK’s profile has changed in the last couple of years. First, the Wrapper and everything that has happened here…
– It does start to shake the artist’s dancing feet and make me wonder if I have something to contribute to this competition! Mikael tells.
Eurovision
If the rappers win the New Music competition and go to Eurovision to represent Finland, their goal is unanimous. They’re going to win.
– I never do anything halfway, not even 95 percent. Everything is done at 100-125 percent. And yes, I hate losing more than anything, Mikael laughs.
Mikael Gabriel and Nublu have made music before. In 2020, they released the song Universum. Elle Laitila
Nublu believes that Estonians will not be disappointed that he is competing as Finland’s representative.
– They do know me. I’m like a roller coaster, I do crazy things all the time. I believe they will support me in this as well, says Nublu.
– I believe that the Estonians’ reaction will be the exact opposite. I think they can be proud that an Estonian represents Finland. We are in a way the same people, Mikael adds.
According to the duo, it was clear to them from the beginning that they would compete in Finland precisely because of the New Music Competition.
