Mika Lehtimäki resigned – Arto Bryggare commented on the case

Mika Lehtimäki left his wash on Monday as head of the top sports unit. The man said he had sent messages to the two people at night that had crossed the border.

Mika Lehtimäki himself strongly denies the allegations of physical contact.

Bryggare, known as a man of the SDP, is not one of Lehtimäki’s close friends, but he has known the gentleman for years.

– Mika is a person who charges and focuses on coaching with a very great passion. He has always had tough goals in what he does, Bryggare describes.

According to Bryggare, no one can deny Lehtimäki’s professional competence.

– His understanding of top sports is high.

Bryggare also wonders about the actions of the Olympic Committee presidency. Jan Vapaavuori, Sari Multala and Susanna Rahkamo knew Lehtimäki had received a warning last autumn, but the trio did not tell the board of the Olympic Committee.

– Yes, it should have been taken to the government. It went totally on his cheek. Surely the parties now agree, Bryggare says.

When the government was unaware of the warning Lehtimäki received, it was decided in early March to extend the man’s contract as top sports director until 2024.

– Now we have to find out who really knew about this. And those who have known the seriousness of the situation must draw their own conclusions. At the very least, they have to leave their own position of trust, that is, at least, Bryggare insists.

According to the legendary legend, there are people behind Lehtimäki and Vapaavuori, known as the Coalition Party politician, who are connected to each other.

– That’s why it’s hard for me to imagine that these things would be completely foreign to “Janne”, but it’s better to study first and evaluate only then.

– I know that there is a crowd in those circles that makes me pretty much disgusted.

In a better direction

Bryggare hopes that Lehtimäki’s activities are only an isolated case in the Olympic Committee.

– In the interests of sport, it is now important for the Olympic Committee to carry out a detailed report. I want to see what kind of action is taken there so that this never happens again.

In the big picture, however, according to Bryggare, the sport is going in the right direction.

– The different forms of discrimination and harassment against women have significantly decreased from what they were in the 70s and 80s when I played sports. Then it would be ridiculous for such cases, as sad as it is, Bryggare notes, and then is silent for a moment.

– But yes, there still seems to be work to be done here.
