Midsomer Murders actor revealed serious problems behind the scenes: Mistreatment

The Midsomer Murders The 18th production season starts today at Maikkar. The same episodes were shown for the first time on our TV1 in 2016. At that time, Charlie Nelson was seen – and will be seen again now – for the last time. He serves as Barnaby’s sidekick for another six episodes, after which Jamie Winter inherits his role.

Playing Nelson Gwilym Lee is by no means the first to have been around for only a few seasons. Before him, Barnaby, either Tom or John, have left Daniel Casey, John Hopkins and Jason Hughes.

Hughes played Ben Jones, who starred in seasons 9–15 just before Lee. The Daily Mail According to Hughes, he finally felt he had no choice but to end the series. The working hours were so hard.

– It all started to affect my health. I was so tired that I didn’t feel like doing anything at home or at work. During filming breaks, I got sick with a flu that lasted for weeks. According to my doctor, I was suffering from exhaustion for which the only cure was rest.

Hughes later revealed that he was not treated well by the Midsomer Murders production team. According to the actor, he was paid far too little.

While the detectives have changed many times over the years, there have only been two main actors in the Midsomer murders. Originally, starting in the 1990s, the role was interpreted by Tom Barnaby John Nettles. Started full-time in his place in 2011 Neil Dudgeonwho plays Tom’s cousin John Barnaby.

In today’s opening episode of the 18th season, the body of a recently deceased rich landowner mysteriously disappears.
