Housing corporation Lefier and the municipality of Midden-Groningen will help a thousand households to reduce their energy costs.
They do this by adjusting the water side of the central heating boilers of tenants of homes with a low energy label. The water is evenly distributed over the radiators, making the central heating systems more economical to use. A household can thus save up to 10 percent on its energy bill, the municipality and the housing corporation report.
“The high inflation and energy prices mean that some of our tenants have difficulty paying their housing costs,” says Lefier director Elles Dost. “That is why we give high priority to making our rental properties more sustainable. This includes insulating them and fitting them with solar panels. Hydronic balancing of the central heating is a relatively simple and affordable way to reduce the energy consumption of our tenants.”
The water-side adjustment of the central heating is done in the winter months, during regular maintenance of the home that qualify for it.
Midden-Groningen and Lefier have agreed to each pay half of the costs.
