Middelkerke will literally get a road ‘straight to the sea’

The Middelkerke exit is not exactly the fastest route to the sea. Especially at the Slijpebrug it goes completely wrong, especially on busy tourist days. With a new bridge over the Plassendale-Nieuwpoort canal, the municipality wants to make that connection smoother. There will also be a new road connecting the roundabout in Slijpe with the roundabout on Westendelaan. This literally creates a road ‘straight to the sea’.

Wait at least another three years

This is only a first project proposal, because there is still a long administrative road of implementation plans, permit applications and tenders. But mayor Jean-Marie Dedecker is convinced that the plans will be implemented. If all goes well, the works will start within three years, and should take the same amount of time.
