S.more and more loved and chosen by the stars, the micro helmet is experiencing a new, lucky season, and is a candidate to become officially one of the hair trend of 2022 just started.
The micro helmet of 2022 is called “Lop”
Shorter than a bob, but longer than a pixie, so much so that it was renamed “lop “ by the heads of the US salon The Hair Bros, who relaunched it and enjoyed great success among followers (“lop” derives from the fusion of the words “long” and “crop”, that is “long” and “cut”, ed) the micro helmet has recently been chosen by many famous.
Just think of Jessica Alba, who pretended to try it for a few weeks, a January Jones, who took off her bob and made it even more dynamic thanks to a maxi fringe.
AND Selena Gomez, with a very fluffy version, thanks to the skilful styling of her trusted hairstylist, Hung Vanngo.
The story of an iconic cut, born to rejuvenate
Beyond the name, however, the Lop is certainly not a new entry when it comes to haircuts, but a return. “It has its roots in the 1920s, when the Flapper were pioneers”, remember Filippo Oghittu, Salon Director of TONI & GUY Cagliari.
It was a generation of strongly unconventional young women, who had taken to shortening their clothes, wearing much more make-up than their mothers and showing off very short haircuts, in defiance of the traditions of the time.
The first “lop” in history
The story goes that the first woman to have sported one was named Eve Lavallièr, a 43-year-old theater actress who refreshed her look to put the face of an 18-year-old at the Belle Époque theater. It was the 1909: Monsieur Antoine de Paris, pseudonym of the hairdresser Antoni Cierplikowski, had invented the helmet, or bob what to say if you want.
A cut that would have revolutionized not only the head of Madame Eve, but of many other women after her. “Even today the helmet has retained this very strong heritage, representative of a decisive and determined femininity”, continues Oghittu.
Micro helmet, the new interpretations for 2022
Today, obviously, the possible interpretations are innumerable compared to the past. “This is a versatile cut, which can easily be adapted to different faces.”
For those who love the casual trend, for example, an excellent example is the micro helmet of the influencer Taylor LaShae: in this case the keywords are fringe, soft and natural texture.
Very chic, however, the version of the actress Lucy Boynton, who prefers a more brushed glossy finish, or a more glam version, with hair combed back starting from a low side part, for a look half wet half dry“.
A short cut with character that emphasizes the face
As with any other short, the micro bob is not for everyone.
«It should be studied on the basis of the type of person in front of you, who must feel it in their own ropes. It is undoubtedly suitable for those with a strong spirit and for those who are not afraid to show themselves, because compared to other cuts it attracts a lot of attention, it is as if it were saying “I’m here, can you see me?” ».
“The focal point of this cut is the face, emphasized by a shape that can be more or less defined, but which always highlights the mouth and cheekbones, especially when it is very short ” continues Filippo Oghittu by TONI & GUY.
In the latter case, in fact, «the bob uncovers the chin, jaws and eyes. It is in this all its strength, whether you choose it as a graphic one, with a mass kept intact and a very clear shape, like that of Valentina, the heroine of Crepax’s comics, or whether you prefer it a bit parade, sweeter and less severe “, explains the expert .
The right micro helmet according to the shape of the face
If once it was only recommended for women with a perfect oval, now that beauty is more inclusive the micro helmet is no longer just for a few.
“On an angular face, for example, with pronounced chin and cheekbones, I would have no worries about keeping a short full bob: what really matters is to personalize it on the face and on the person,” continues Filippo Oghittu.
Instead, I recommend more attention on a square face with an important jaw, because you risk accentuating its width. In such cases, anyway, the cut can be softened with a little more length, but also with color, avoiding putting the accent on what one prefers to remain in the shade ».
Bangs: yes or no? Depends
The same principle applies when it comes to bangs.
“If the face is oval or particularly elongated, with the micro helmet it is perfect, if, on the other hand, it is round or square, more attention is needed because these are faces that already lose their length and risk becoming even shorter and wider ”, suggests Oghittu.
The texture of the hair, another factor to consider
Natural straight, wavy or frizzy? The texture of the hair, as defined by the experts, it is of great importance when it comes to cuts.
«If the hair tends to swell, it goes without saying that a very short hair must necessarily be disciplined to prevent it from swelling even more. On the other hand, if it is silky by nature, even if not perfectly smooth, the combination with a short is perfect », adds Filippo Oghittu.
The reason is simple: “Styling can be done either with a brush and hairdryer, for a firmer look, perhaps from yesteryear, or carried natural”.
The right styling for every lop cut
On the drying front, then, green light to the imagination.
“The smooth classic is beautiful, for those who dream of a perfect aplomb and are familiar with brush and hairdryer, ma the micro bob is also wonderful moved with waves, or more glamorous, combed back with a slight wet effect and tips out.
For a hair look day by day, instead, I recommend privileging the natural movement of the hair », adds Oghittu.
The best way? “Use a diffuser. The hairdryer, whether it is with or without a spout, always smoothes a little, with the diffuser, on the other hand, it is possible to maintain a minimum of movement ».
It’s easier than you think.
