Micky Hoogendijk: ‘absurd’ that Jinek showed live images of the attack | Stars

Hoogendijk was a guest to talk about her work and her move to a farm in Brabant. Suddenly Jinek showed the images that were made just after the bomb attack. The artist lost his legs, Hoogendijk had a miscarriage as a result of the attack.

“It was absurd, I was totally unprepared for that,” Hoogendijk told NPO Radio 1. “It would be about my new house and my work. And suddenly, as if it were a funny video, we got live images from minutes after the attack.” The artist immediately went into survival mode. “I have a form of post-traumatic stress disorder, you immediately fall back into it. It’s like showing a survivor of the MH17 crash footage of the crash and saying: gosh, what a shame that you were brought down.”

Seeing the images brought back all kinds of memories of that day at Hoogendijk. “You start smelling things, feeling things, everything suddenly collapses back into you,” she describes. “But you are also sitting at the table next to Gordon and being interviewed. So all you can do is take a deep breath and keep going. I felt an enormous sadness float to the surface, but I wasn’t going to put it on the table. I wouldn’t let them sit there crying late night prime time. Because that’s what they were there to do.”

Jinek also noted in the broadcast that it “is very confronting, isn’t it, to show those images in the studio.” Afterwards, Hoogendijk thought that she should have addressed Jinek at the table that she was suddenly surprised by these shocking images. “But I was just too busy with myself for a moment to keep my balance at that moment.” The artist is still frustrated that the perpetrator of the attack has never been found.
