Mercedes replacement driver Mick Schumacher sat in the German car manufacturer’s Formula 1 racing car for the first time during test drives on Wednesday – and after the 152 laps in Barcelona he was totally enthusiastic about the Silver Arrow.
“It was great. I learned a lot and it was a lot of fun,” said the 24-year-old about his test run for tire manufacturer Pirelli.
“It was a very productive day, we did everything we wanted,” said the 24-year-old.
So far, replacement driver Schumacher had only “driven” the W14 company car of record world champion Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in the simulator at the Brackley plant. Now Michael Schumacher’s son was behind the wheel for the first time on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
“This experience will definitely benefit me in my role. I now know better what to look out for and what to work on,” said Schumacher, who after two years with Haas had not received a new contract for the current season.
“I also have a better understanding of all the processes and how the team works at the track, which is a key factor in case I have to go to the race.”
