Michelle Yeoh to Play Bisexual Lead in Star Trek Movie Section 31

Paramount has announced the new Star Trek movie, Section 31. Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as bisexual Terran Philippa Georgiou.

Paramount+ has announced a new Star Trek movie titled Section 31. The project has been under discussion since 2019 and was originally conceived as a series. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Philippe Georgiou in the film, which she previously played in the series “Star Trek: Discovery”. The new flick, which appears exclusively on the Paramount+ streaming service, is a spin-off of the series.

“Section 31” is now to illuminate Philippa Georgiou’s activities at Starfleet’s “Section 31” secret service, how “Variety” reported. The task of the section is to defend all worlds of the federation, including residents.

Michelle Yeoh is “more than thrilled to be returning to her Star Trek family and to the role I have loved for so long,” she told Variety. “‘Section 31’ has been close to my heart since the beginning of my journey as a Philippa actress and since the beginning of this new golden age of ‘Star Trek,'” continued the 60-year-old. The fact that Philippa Georgiou now has “her moment” is a dream come true for Yeoh.

It was hinted in Star Trek: Discovery that Philippa Georgiou might be bisexual. The Empress of the Terran Empire has a special relationship with Starfleet Officer Michael Bunham. Also, there is a scene in the first season where Philippa has a threesome with a man and a woman.

“Section 31”: Not before 2024

According to Variety, filming will begin later this year. A release can probably be expected at the earliest after the end of “Star Trek: Discovery” in early 2024.

Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian actress to win the Oscar for Best Actress in 2023. The Malaysian was honored for her role as Evelyn Wang in the film “Everything Everywhere All at Once”.
