The accusation against Michel Houellebecq presented to the Paris prosecutor’s office in response to an interview published in mid-November in the magazine Front Populaire. In the publication, the successful French writer predicted: “when entire territories are dominated by Islam there will be a Bataclan, but the other way around”, referring to the 2015 terrorist attack that occurred at the concert of Eagles of Death Metal.
The author of “Submission”, novel in which he narrates the arrival of an Islamic president in the French state, he had a meeting with the intellectual essayist michel onfray in which he stated: “The French of pure strain what they want is that the Muslims stop attacking and stealing”. Precisely, the publication of “Sumisión” coincided with the attack on the newsroom of charlie hebdo, which is still an open wound for French society today.
The writer of admired works such as “Expansion of the Battlefield”, “The Elemental Particles”, “Platform” or “The map and the territory”, concluded: “If there is no other solution, let them leave.” the figure of “terrible child” of literature, both for the visceral content of their works and for their controversial statements, were received by the Grand Mosque of Paris as “unacceptable” and “a brutality that generates astonishment”.
However, disputes between Michel Houellebecq and the French Muslim community are longstanding. One of the most shocking moments was immortalized on the cover of the humorous weekly charlie hebdowith the caricatured image of the writer accompanied by the headline: “The predictions of the magician Houellebecq”.
On the other hand, there were previous antecedents in the cultural dispute between the award-winning writer and Islam. In 2002, at the height of the launch of his book “Platform”, Houellebecq pointed out that “Islamism is the most idiotic religion.” The consequences of his words had to be resolved in the French courts.
