The 2017 Miss Finland Michaela Söderholm is a new mother. Söderholm and her fiance, ice hockey player Michael Keränen, recently moved to Germany.
Söderholm tells Iltalehte at the opening ceremony of the Rowing Stadium that the baby’s life has started well in the new home country.
– I’m completely in love with the environment, the village-like feeling there, Söderholm describes to Iltalehte.
– Of course, there is no counseling system in the same way, but equally, some things are different.
Söderholm and Keräsen’s first child was born in February. Söderholm says that she has noticed new dimensions of herself with motherhood.
– In parenting, you understand and learn something new every day, and the child learns new things all the time. For me, family life feels like my own and wonderful, he rejoices.
– Of course there are those broken nights and moments when you get a little more tired.
In two weeks, Söderholm will return to his studies and start studying German at the same time. The goal is for him to learn to communicate in German properly in everyday life.
Söderholm has also lived in Australia, among other places. However, the move to Germany went more painlessly than previous moves, and major culture shocks were avoided.
– Maybe it surprised me that not many people in Germany like to speak English, says Söderholm.
Söderholm and Keränen met in 2020. The couple is now engaged, but according to Söderholm, the wedding plans are on hold for the time being for practical reasons.
– Nothing has been locked in yet. We are engaged and there has been talk of a wedding.
– It has always been my wish to marry the right person.
