Michael van Gerwen wins the Premier League for the seventh time in his career

Michael van Gerwen has won the Premier League for the seventh time in his career. The number 3 in the world was the boss in the London O2 Arena in the final with 11-5 Gerwyn Price from Wales. Mighty Mike wins no less than 316,000 euros with his victory.

De Brabander is now the record holder; British retired darts legend Phil Taylor won the tournament ‘only’ six times. The visibly emotional darts player proudly showed the trophy to the audience afterwards.

In the final, Van Gerwen never got into trouble. The final was therefore much less exciting than in 2022 when he narrowly won 11-10 against Joe Cullen in Berlin.

Scream for joy
Thursday night everything went smoothly for him. He recorded an average of 105.43, Price recorded an average score of 99.5. Van Gerwen ran from 2-2 to a 7-2 lead. He finished it off at 10-5 by throwing a double 9, after which he cried out with joy. In recent months he has lost several times to Price, who has been in excellent shape in recent weeks.

Van Gerwen’s performance has been particularly volatile in recent weeks. Last week he withdrew from his semi-final in Aberdeen because he was suffering from a shoulder injury.

Earlier in the evening Van Gerwen was 10-8 too strong for Michael Smith in the semi-final, Price left Jonny Clayton without a chance 10-2.

The 34-year-old Van Gerwen also won the Premier League in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022. Van Gerwen was a finalist in 2014 and 2015.
