Michael van Gerwen talks (and wins) again after painful dental surgery

Michael van Gerwen has given a first interview after a major dental procedure. During the Poland Darts Masters, the consequences of the operation were clearly visible and audible. In any case, there was nothing to notice about his performance this weekend. Van Gerwen won the tournament.

The top darts player therefore won, but according to friend and fellow darts player Vincent van der Voort, Van Gerwen is still having a lot of trouble. “He is ashamed of how he looks now and talks differently now. That is not pleasant and I can imagine that very well.”

Van Gerwen’s lower and upper jaws were not aligned properly and he has now had surgery to prevent problems in the future.

Four wisdom teeth
“He still has difficulty talking and eating is difficult,” says Van der Voort on YouTube. “His jaw has been operated on and his palate has been cut. There is now 8 millimeters of space between its front prongs. A front tooth is now completely crooked and must be straightened with braces. That is all very painful. We also had four wisdom teeth pulled.”

To recover, Van Gerwen wants to take it a bit easier in the coming period and not play all tournaments. He does play the major tournaments, such as the World Matchplay. Van Gerwen will have to go under the knife again next year.
