Michael van der Mark successfully operated in Groningen after horror crash during World Superbike Championship in Assen

Motorcycle racer Michael van der Mark (30) has successfully completed the surgery required to reassemble the bone in his left upper leg.

The unfortunate BMW driver from Bergschenhoek crashed heavily on Sunday during the Superbike World Championship at the TT Circuit in Assen. In the second lap, he made one in front of thousands of spectators at the famous Geert Timmer corner highside , after which the driver bounced hard off the track. Van der Mark then came into contact with his own motorcycle a few more times, which came after him.

Operation

It was immediately clear that his left leg was not in good shape. This also turned out later when Van der Mark had stabilized and went to the medical centre was transported on the TT Circuit. In the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen it later became clear that an operation was necessary to straighten and reconnect the broken upper leg.

UMCG

Because there was a lot of activity in the Asser hospital and because it concerned an open fracture, Van der Mark was eventually transported to the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), where he successfully underwent surgery the same evening. Apart from his left leg, Van der Mark suffered no further injuries from the heavy crash and can start his recovery.
