Motorcycle racer Michael van der Mark has broken his left upper leg in a heavy fall during the second race of the Superbike weekend at the Assen TT circuit. The Dutchman from BMW will be operated on Sunday evening in the hospital in Groningen.
Van der Mark made a so-called highsider and then had to be treated for a long time on the side of the track where it was already visible that his left leg was in an unnatural position. Van der Mark, who comes from Bergschenhoek, has been plagued by injuries in recent years. He broke a leg over a year ago in a fall during a mountain bike ride. Once recovered, a hip fracture followed in May after a training accident at the Estoril circuit in Portugal.
Also crashed at the beginning of March
At the beginning of March of this year things went wrong again in Mandalika, Indonesia. Van der Mark crashed in the second race weekend in Superbike and broke two fingers. He had recovered just in time to take action in Assen.
It is not yet known how long he will have to recover from his broken leg. According to his manager, this will become clearer after the operation.
