Michael Theuns young party leader CDA at provincial councils | 1Limburg

The 28-year-old Michael Theuns has been nominated by the board of the CDA-Limburg as party leader for the provincial council elections in March next year.

Theuns is currently party chairman of the CDA in Beek. A confidential committee led by mayor Petra Dassen van Kerkrade had proposed Teuns. The CDA-Limburg says that with Theuns it opts for rejuvenation and a new course within the party.

Designated person
The Limburg CDA chairman Harold Schroeder states that Teuns has convinced the committee and the board that he is the right person to give the CDA-Limburg story a new shape and content.

“Despite his young age, he has enough experience and vision to take the political leadership of our party on his shoulders,” said Schroeder.

Hugely honorable
Michael Theuns himself considers it extremely honorable that he has been nominated as party leader and indicates that he is very much looking forward to it. “In everything we do, we must ensure that everyone can participate and have a livelihood. People need to feel heard again and can rely on the government,” Theuns explains his ambition at provincial level.

Important challenge
Theuns sees the major transitions around climate, energy and economy as an important challenge. “Without placing the lust with one person and the burden with another. We have to take responsibility together”, says Theuns.

Experience
He also has several years of experience in provincial politics. First as a board advisor to former deputy Hubert Mackus. Then as project leader nitrogen and then off the tourist bike path through Parkstad Leisure Lane. He currently works at Berenschot consultancy.

CDA
On June 13, the members’ meeting of the CDA-Limburg must approve the nomination of Theuns as party leader. Four years ago, former deputy Ger Koopmans was the leader of the CDA in the provincial elections. The party then won 9 seats and thus remained the largest party.
