F1 legend Michael Schumacher53, has received a handsome tribute from his German home state.
North Rhine-Westphalia in the west of Germany has awarded the seven-time F1 champion the highest private prize in the state Staatspreisin.
– Only a few Germans have changed the whole sport like Schumacher racing, said the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wüst.
The prize will be accepted on behalf of Schumacher by his wife Corinna and children Mick and Gina. Acknowledgments will be given by Schumacher’s longtime team manager Jean Todt.
The prize is usually awarded once a year to people who have achieved great achievements and who are connected to North Rhine-Westphalia through their careers and work.
Schumacher has been out of the public domain for a long time since the end of 2013 due to a serious brain injury. She is cared for at home in Switzerland.
