Michael Monroe received the ashes of Lemmy Kilmister as a gift

Michael Monroe literally received a portion of Lemmy Kilmister as a gift.

Now Kilmister’s close circle has remembered this friend, a Finnish musician Michael Monroeta with a special gift.

Monroe shared a picture of a bullet engraved with the name Lemmy on his Instagram account on Wednesday. However, the gift is more than what it looks like on the outside.

Monroe also attached a picture of a letter that had apparently been sent with the bullet. Judging from the letterhead, the shipment had come directly from Motörhead.

The letter states that Kilmister considered only a few friends and even fewer part of his family.

– Since you were one of those he experienced as part of his family, we would like to share a small piece with him. Lemmy touched the lives of all of us in an unforgettable way. These ashes will not only leave you with memories, you will have Lemmy with you forever, the letter reads.

Decades of friendship

Monroe became acquainted with Kilmister as early as the early 1980s in London, when an American rock singer Stiv Bators introduced the men to each other. Monroe and Kilmister quickly became good friends.

The friendship also led to joint performances. Monroe has performed several times at Motörhead’s gigs, and five years ago Monroe’s band was a warm-up on Motörhead’s tour in England.

In 2011, the men made a duet called Debauchery as a Fine Art on Monroe’s Monroe record Sensory Overdrive.

– Big loss, big person, big band. Everyone can learn from his attitude, Monroe commented to Iltalehti shortly after Kilmister’s death.
